Получить продуктыIn this introductory tutorial about ForestIvy, we’ll explain how to use the built-in presets so you can get up and running immediately with the minimum of effort.
- Go to the Create panel and click on ForestIvy, or select the icon from the redesigned toolbar.
- Click and drag to create a new ForestIvy object in the viewport.
- Switch to the Modify panel.
- In the General rollout, click on the Library button to open the Library Browser.
- You’ll see there’s now a brand new folder for ForestIvy presets. If you don’t have this, click on the update button in the General rollout to open Update Manager and then run an update. Once you have the folder, click on the Climbing Plants library. You’ll see a list of all the presets that are included. Select one and click Load Selected or double-click.
- Now we need to tell ForestIvy what objects we want it to grow on. Head to the Growth rollout.
- Click the + button and select a surface from your scene. Alternatively, you can use the Load Multiple button to load multiple objects from a list. To clear all surfaces, you’d click the Delete button.
- Click on the Brush Icon and draw a baseline on the surface. The ivy will start growing from this initial stroke. You can add multiple baselines if needed. To remove a baseline, use the Eraser tool or click the bin icon to delete all baselines.
- Adjust the Growth Level parameter to control the size of the plant. Increasing this value simulates longer growth, giving you larger plants.
- You can continue drawing at any point—the plugin is fast, offering immediate feedback on the final result.
That’s it! As you can see it’s really easy to use. It’s worth noting that you can easily change the preset at any point without having to reassign the surfaces or redraw the paths. Just load another asset from the library, and it updates automatically.
Let’s now look at a more complex scene. For most buildings, you’ll want to prevent the ivy from growing across the windows. Thankfully this is an easy fix. You can limit the growth to specific materials by entering the desired Material IDs in the Growth rollout. For instance, by setting the ID to the wall materials, the ivy will be restricted to this area. Alternatively, you can flip this by using the Exclude checkbox. With this enabled to exclude the glass in this scene you'd enter an ID value that matches the glass material. You can even enter multiple values separated by commas.
That's the basics covered. Check back for future tutorials in which we’ll be taking a deep dive into the growth settings so that you can customize the plants, or even create your own from scratch.
